Homemade diets are flexible, tasty and in some cases healthier than over the counter dog and cat foods. For some pets, a homemade diet offers the only hope for meeting multiple nutritional requirements. For instance, there are no commercial prescription diets available to address the needs of a pet with both pancreatitis and kidney disease. Even for healthy pets, a custom diet can be formulated to meet their taste preferences, and the preparation can be tailored to the owner's needs.
Our diet formulation service will provide complete and balanced diets after computer balancing. The charge is $75 - $300, depending on complexity of the diet. That price includes evaluation of a diet and medical history and one revision within 1 month of provision of the original recipe. It does not include a phone consultation, which is optional for $60/15 minutes. If you are in the area, we highly recommend a physical examination as well ($118) because we can better customize the diet after evaluating your pet’s physical condition, using conventional as well as traditional Chinese medical examination techniques. Please contact us to begin this process. The diet history forms to be filled out ahead of time are located here.
NOTE about raw diets: Some raw feeders do not believe in the concept of complete and balanced diets. We believe that these diets can and should be balanced over time with supplements, a variety of veggies and sometimes a small amount of carbohydrate for active working dogs. However, the nutritional contents for raw meaty bones has not been definitively established, so we do not have sufficient data for balancing these diets. If you would like to learn more about balancing raw diets, we recommend checking Monica Segal's website and books - www.monicasegal.com
